What about equipment on hire?
Although equipment owned or controlled by a company, for hire purposes, is not within the scope of the Code of Practice, any equipment hired by an individual or company in many cases becomes the responsibility of that individual or company hiring it, and so within the scope of the Code of Practice.
This simply means, the moment this equipment goes into service the individual or company is responsible for the In-Service Inspections and testing’s, unless a contract of agreement exists for its regular inspections, testing and maintenance by the supplier.
Equipment on hire for a short period, less than a week for example may not require testing but should however be risk assessed before use by a competent person.
